Julie
Patient Coordinator
As Patient Coordinator for Dr. Shlafer, I welcome patients into our office, as house guests are welcomed into my home. I am the voice you hear on the phone, the greeter when you arrive and the farewell as you leave. Before your appointment, plans for the perfect visit are set in motion by gathering all the information needed to properly care for you. I always want to meet and exceed your needs by listening and considering each aspect of your individual circumstance. This includes researching insurance information, reviewing proposed treatment, and making financial arrangements. All discussions are done with graciousness, compassion and care. My goal is to ensure that our patients leave completely satisfied and anticipating a comfortable next visit.

Clinical Partner
Originally from Alpena, Michigan, I started my dental assisting career at a general practice in 1977. I then moved to the Detroit area in 1980 and have lived here for 30 years. After taking time off to raise a family, I returned to dentistry working in periodontics, implantology and general dentistry. I have worked as Dr. Shlafer’s assistant for 13 years, and love the warm, caring, service-oriented environment that our office provides for our patients. “Dr. Shlafer is always bringing the latest and best technology and treatment options to his patients, which allows me to continually grow and advance my knowledge and skills as his assistant.”
I have an Associate’s degree and belong to a Prayer Shawl Ministry at my church. My favorite pastime is spending time with my son and daughter-in-law, although I also enjoy cooking/baking, knitting/crocheting, reading and gardening.

ABOUT OUR HYGIENE TEAM
Sharon
Registered Dental Hygienist
I have been a dental hygienist with Dr. Roman Shlafer since 1998. I received my degree in Dental Hygiene from Ferris State College and studied at the University of Detroit to become licensed to administer local anesthesia. I have extensive postgraduate studies in periodontal therapy and this experience, coupled with a gentle touch, has developed into an extremely effective approach to the treatment and maintenance of gum disease. I know firsthand what it feels like to have a healthy smile makeover and want all of my patients to feel this way.
Mary
Registered Dental Hygienist
After graduating from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1985 with a degree in Dental Hygiene, I worked as a dental hygienist in Bern, Switzerland for two years. Being immersed in a foreign country has given me the opportunity to experience a new culture first hand. It also offered me the privilege of traveling with my husband to most of the European countries, as well and Russia and Turkey. These experiences have enriched my view of the world and have affected the way I have helped raise our children. They have also made for an interesting and quite often funny exchange of stories with my patients.
Working with Dr. Shlafer for more than 15 years now, I can say without hesitation, that the patients I see are an extension of my family. We discuss health issues well beyond dentistry. I believe a more holistic approach is necessary for total health. My patient’s well-being is my priority. Their experience here is very important to me. I take pride in the fact that we, as an office, utilize the latest technology in caring for our patients. Treatment is given in the most caring and comfortable way possible. That gives me confidence to know we are giving the best care available. I am grateful to be part of such a talented team. I invite you to join our family.
