What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry aims to improve the appearance of your smile by enhancing the size, color, and shape of your teeth. Patients who have a healthy smile but desire a specific look can benefit from cosmetic dental services. At Roman Shlafer, DDS, we strive to not only enhance the aesthetics of your smile but also make it as natural looking as possible. We understand that no two patients are the same so you can trust that we’ll take the time to create a personalized plan to bring your dream smile to life.
Dr. Shlafer offers a variety of cosmetic treatments at our practice, including:
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a common cosmetic procedure that removes stains from the surface of your teeth. Things like diet, oral habits, and age can affect the appearance of your teeth over time. Teeth whitening allows us to eliminate stains while making your teeth several shades whiter. We offer two options for teeth whitening that are both highly effective.
The first option is our Nite White® take-home trays, which are custom-made to fit your teeth and produce noticeable results in just seven to ten days. Alternatively, you can visit our office for the BriteSmile® procedure. This powerful treatment brightens your smile in just one appointment, allowing you to show off your new smile immediately.
Veneers and Lumineers
Veneers and Lumineers are thin shells that fit over chipped, stained, or misaligned teeth. They’re made from durable porcelain to ensure natural function and long-lasting results. They can be used to treat:
- Crooked teeth
- Teeth that are too small
- Stained teeth that are resistant to teeth whitening
- Uneven or worn teeth
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Spacing between teeth
Because they’re customized to blend in with your natural teeth, veneers and Lumineers can easily and discreetly cover any aesthetic flaws in your smile.
The main difference between veneers and Lumineers is that Lumineers are the thinner of the two. They’re extremely narrow and completely translucent, so they can replicate the natural color of your enamel. Lumineers also require less preparation to place.
Composite Bonding
Composite Bonding is a fast and easy procedure that can fix chips, cracks, discoloration, and other small issues with your teeth. The bonding material is made from a tooth-colored ceramic that is cured with a high-intensity light before shaping and smoothing it to your tooth.
Smile Makeovers
A smile makeover is for patients who are looking to reconstruct their entire smile. The treatments involved in a smile makeover can vary depending on your specific needs, but they often involve a combination of cosmetic and restorative procedures. Some of these procedures include periodontal treatment and dental implants.
Frequently Asked Questions
Cosmetic dentistry aims to address the physical appearance of your smile.
General dentistry focuses on the overall health and wellness of your smile and includes things like preventive services, root canals, and extractions to optimize your oral health.
Restorative dentistry centers around the health and function of your smile which includes things like dental bridges, dental implants, and dentures to bring your smile back to working order.
While cosmetic dentistry addresses the physical appearance of your teeth, orthodontics is its own specialty geared towards the alignment of your teeth. Dr. Shlafer offers Inman aligners, SureSmile® Aligners, and All-on-4® to address any of your orthodontic needs.
Many insurance companies do not cover cosmetic procedures because they are for aesthetic purposes. However, depending on your specific reasons for the treatment, there may be exceptions like with orthodontic treatments which are for both the health and look of your teeth. We highly recommend checking with your insurance provider first to ensure you maximize your benefits. Dr. Shlafer also offers a variety of financing options so that you don’t have to worry about getting the care you need.
